This book is designed for beginner-level students, and it focuses on developing reading and writing skills. There are 10 units in the book, and each unit has two main sections: reading and writing. Each unit also includes vocabulary development and critical thinking exercises. The book uses a topic-based and task-based learning approach. Each unit has a specific topic, like success, health, or communication. Students practice reading texts, answering questions, and then writing short paragraphs or essays based on the topic. One strength of this book is the way it connects reading and writing. Students first read and understand the topic, and then they apply that knowledge in writing. This helps them develop their language naturally. The visuals in the book, such as pictures and graphs, are also helpful. They make the material more interesting and give context before reading. The vocabulary section introduces new words and teaches students how to use them in context. Another great feature is the focus on critical thinking. The book asks students to compare ideas, give opinions, and reflect on what they read. This is important for developing deeper understanding.
Overall, we think this book is very suitable for English learners, especially at the beginner level. The language is simple, the topics are relevant, and the exercises are useful for building reading and writing skills step by step.

  3. Textbook Analysis: “My Next Words” Grade 1 (Native Speaker’s Textbook)
    By: Ghaniyah Nur Azeeza Putri_221230017
    Fitria Nurhasanah_221230018
    Eti Nurcholisoh_221230019

We analyzed the textbook "My Next Words" (Grade 1) as part of our practice in evaluating textbooks by native authors. The analysis focuses on content suitability, assessment, activities, as well as the strengths, weaknesses, and challenges.

    1. Content Suitability
The content is mostly aligned with curriculum goals and supports 21st-century learning, such as diversity, critical thinking, and character values. The topics are familiar and meaningful for children (e.g., daily life, school, family). However, some topics overlap (e.g., fruits appear in a family-themed unit), which can cause confusion. Also, some materials are not updated and lack references.

    2. Assessment
This book includes formative and summative evaluations, but they are limited. Some units have evaluations that don't clearly reflect the learning objectives. There's a need for better alignment between exercises and expected outcomes.

    3. Activities & Content
The book offers a variety of activities (songs, board games, role-plays, etc.) that support different learning styles. It uses attractive visuals, short texts, and games that motivate students. However, it lacks activities to build higher-order thinking and real-life interaction with authentic English (e.g., native speaker audio).

    4. Strengths
    Visually appealing and child-friendly design
    Emphasizes diversity and character building
Balanced development of 4 language skills (speaking, listening, reading, writing)
    5. Weaknesses
    Lacks pronunciation and native input
    Many typos and grammar inconsistencies
Limited teacher support and digital integration
Needs better sequence and evaluation structure
    6. Challenges
Overdependence on textbook without digital media
Teachers may struggle to supplement materials due to limited resources
Textbook does not fully engage students in intercultural learning
    Conclusion:
My Next Words is a solid textbook for young learners with engaging content and visuals. Still, it needs improvement in vocabulary accuracy, evaluation quality, and digital support to enhance students’ learning experiences.

    Written Report
Analysis of the BIG Textbook of EYL Based on EYL Group 7 Presentation

    1. Introduction
English for Young Learners (EYL) has become an important part of children's education. Textbooks are the main tools used in classrooms to help children learn English. However, not all textbooks are perfect. In this report, we analyze the BIG Textbook of EYL using the criteria from presentation by Group 7. This report uses simple English to help readers understand better.

    2. Appearance and Design
The BIG Textbook of EYL has many colorful pictures that are attractive to children. The layout is simple and easy to follow. According to the material of 7th group, good design is important to make children interested and help them understand better. This book meets that standard because the pictures are clear and age-appropriate.

    3. Content and Language
The content in the textbook includes basic vocabulary such as animals, colors, and classroom objects. The language is simple and suitable for young learners. However, the book does not always include content that connects to students’ real-life experiences. The material of group 7 recommends that textbooks should use language and topics that are useful in daily life. This is one area the book could improve.

    4. Activities and Methodologies
The textbook includes activities such as matching words, coloring, and repetition. While these are useful, they are not very interactive. The presentation suggests that good textbooks should include games, songs, group tasks, and other fun activities. These methods help children stay engaged and improve their communication skills. The BIG Textbook of EYL needs more of these kinds of activities.

    5. Role of the Textbook in Learning
This textbook helps teachers by providing structured lessons and basic exercises. It supports vocabulary and simple grammar learning. However, it lacks extra tools such as audio for pronunciation practice or videos to support listening skills. According to the material, an ideal EYL textbook should offer full support for both students and teachers.

    6. Advantages of the Textbook

    - Colorful and attractive design
    - Simple language for beginners
    - Structured and organized lessons
    - Easy to use for both students and teachers

    7. Disadvantages of the Textbook

    - Few interactive and fun activities
    - No digital materials like audio or video
    - Lacks real-life and modern content
    - Not much support for teachers to be creative

    8. Conclusion
The BIG Textbook of EYL is a good starting point for teaching English to young learners. It has clear pictures, simple language, and a good structure. However, to meet the standards described in the material, the book should include more interactive activities, digital support, and updated content. By improving these areas, the book can become a more effective and engaging resource for both teachers and students.

    221230026 Putri Pujiyawati

Based on the previous material on textbook unit evaluation, the BIG Textbook of EYL by native speakers has generally fulfilled many important aspects recommended to support English learning for early childhood.

In terms of design and appearance, the book features attractive illustrations and bright colors that match the world of children, thus increasing students' motivation and interest in learning.

The materials presented are also relevant to children's daily lives and in accordance with their level of cognitive development, use simple and easy-to-understand language, and integrate the four language skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) in a gradual and balanced manner.

In addition, this book provides a variety of interactive activities such as games, songs, role-play, and storytelling that strongly support a communicative and child-centered learning approach. These activities are designed for children to actively participate, interact and practice English in a fun way, in accordance with EYL learning principles that emphasize repetition, multisensory and real context. Teacher's books and other supporting materials are also available to assist teachers in managing learning more effectively.

However, in terms of compatibility with digital technology, this BIG Textbook can still be further developed, for example by adding QR codes or access to audio-visual media that can enrich children's learning experience outside the classroom. In addition, although the materials and methods are excellent, the successful implementation of this book in Indonesia is highly dependent on teacher readiness, local cultural adaptation, as well as facility and parental support, given the challenging learning context in Indonesia.

Thus, it can be concluded that the BIG Textbook of EYL by native speakers has met most of the criteria for evaluating an ideal EYL textbook according to the previous material on textbook unit evaluation, especially in terms of design, content, skill development, and interactive and communicative learning methods. However, to optimize its use in Indonesia, there is a need for teacher training, contextual adaptation, and the development of digital supporting media so that English language learning for early childhood can be more effective and enjoyable.

    Ela latifah : 221230002
    Ririn Yusrini M : 221230001

    1. In terms of content suitability, the material presented is in accordance with the EYL curriculum, contains moral values such as politeness, maintaining cleanliness, and caring for the environment, and links learning with other knowledge such as science and social. The themes raised are also varied and very relevant to children's daily lives.

    2. In terms of language suitability, the language used is simple, communicative, and easy for children to understand. There is a special section for pronunciation exercises (phonics), but as mentioned earlier, listening and pronunciation exercises will be more effective if accompanied by native speaker audio sources. This is also one of the shortcomings found in the textbook analysis paper.

    3. For learning activities, this book is very rich in a variety of activities that actively involve students, such as listening, speaking, drawing, role-playing, and making projects. These activities are very appropriate for the characteristics of early childhood who need active and fun learning. In addition, at the end of each unit there is a review and self-assessment that helps students and teachers evaluate their understanding of the material.

    4. In terms of design, this book is very visually appealing, with contextual illustrations, a neat layout, and the use of bright colors. This certainly helps create a positive and fun learning atmosphere. However, as mentioned, this book does not yet provide additional digital material support such as videos, applications, or audio sources that can be accessed independently by students.

    5. Formative Assessment: Carried out during the learning process through interactive activities such as listen and find, act and say, draw and say, and small projects in each unit. Teachers observe students' involvement and understanding directly, so they can provide immediate feedback. Summative Assessment: Carried out at the end of the unit using the review and self-assessment provided in the book. This assessment measures the overall achievement of competencies in the unit.

    1. Age and Developmental Level Appropriateness:

Language: This textbook uses simple English that young children can easily understand. The sentences are short, and the words are basic and related to their lives. However, assessing whether the difficulty level remains consistent and balanced throughout the book is essential. Some sections may be too manageable, while others may be too difficult for some children.

Content: The topics covered, such as family, colors, numbers, body parts, locations around, food, clothing, and weather, are very relevant to children's lives. However, further assessment is needed to ensure that none of the materials are too complex or tedious for children.

    2. Interactive Learning Methods:

The textbook incorporates various interactive learning techniques, such as:

Songs: There are “Listen and Sing” instructions in some sections.

Stories: A “Story” section can be used to tell stories.

Games: Many of the activities are designed in a game format, such as “Play a game”, “Listen and find”, “Look and match”, and others.

    Contextual and Real Learning:

Most of the content in this book is closely related to children's daily lives, covering topics such as family, school, food, and daily routines. This makes it easier for children to understand and apply the lessons learned.

    Balanced Language Skill Development:

The book attempts to equally develop all four language skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing). However, further review of the time allocation for each skill is needed to achieve the ideal balance. The writing segment is currently limited to basic exercises such as matching words and constructing short sentences.

    Variety of Exercises and Evaluation:

The book provides a variety of alternative exercises and assessments, including multiple-choice questions, matching pictures, filling in word blanks, and others. However, it is necessary to evaluate whether the type and number of exercises are sufficient to assess the child's overall ability. A more in-depth explanation of the application of formative and summative evaluation should also be added.

    Compatibility with Digital Technology:

The book does not offer digital features such as QR codes or links to audiovisual materials. However, digital technology can enhance a child's learning experience and provide additional opportunities for learning at home.

    Conclusions:

Overall, the BIG English Starter textbook attempts to meet the criteria. However, some elements still need to be improved, such as ensuring a balance in the difficulty level of the materials, expanding the types of writing exercises, providing more structured formative and summative assessments, and adopting digital technology to enhance children's learning experience.

The BIG ENGLISH book provided has a very attractive appearance for young learners. From our observation, the colorful design, large font size, and cheerful illustrations make this book very suitable for elementary school students. We think that this visual appearance helps to increase students' interest in learning and makes them more focused when using the book in class. As for the structure, the book is neatly organized and each unit has clear learning objectives. We feel that this makes it easier for teachers, especially novice teachers, to organize the flow of teaching. Information is presented in stages, and sections such as review and evaluation are helpful in monitoring students' progress.

The teaching methods in this book are communicative and involve students actively. There are many activities that encourage students to speak, listen, read and write in English. We agree that this approach suits the characteristics of young learners who absorb language more easily through direct experience and play activities. The activities in this book are also very varied, ranging from role play, matching pictures, singing, to small projects. In our opinion, activities like these not only strengthen language skills, but also build students' confidence and social skills. The book is also flexible, as it provides additional materials such as audio, flashcards, and teacher's guide, which is certainly very helpful for teachers in modifying learning.

In terms of content, the vocabulary taught is relevant to children's daily lives. Topics such as family, school, food and animals make it easier for students to understand and relate the material to their own experiences. We think that topics close to children's world are very important to create meaningful learning.

However, although this book is already excellent in many aspects, we feel that the form of assessment in it can still be improved. The assessments available are mostly in the form of written exercises, while speaking and listening skills need to be further strengthened with more specific assessment instruments.

Therefore, based on our analysis, overall this BIG ENGLISH book is a very suitable textbook for English learning for children. The book is not only attractive in appearance, but also supports an active and communicative learning approach that suits the characteristics of young learners. Although there are some things that need to be adjusted, overall this book can be used as the main reference in teaching EYL and can be a good example of a textbook if used wisely and according to the classroom context.

Analysis of the BIG Textbook of EYL Based on for Children's English Learning

    1. General Appearance
This book is very visually appealing! The cover is bright and fun, the font is large and clear. Suitable for children who are just starting to learn English. Kids will definitely feel like this is a play book, not a scary textbook.

    2. Layout and Design
Each unit has a clear pattern and is easy to follow. The illustrations are not only cute but also help children understand the content. The layout is easy on the eyes and not confusing.

    3. Methodology
The methodology is truly learner-centered. There are songs, pictures, games, and fun projects that make children active, not just sitting quietly listening.

    4. Activities
The activities are varied and very suitable for children who are not yet proficient in reading or writing. There is coloring, matching, singing, and creative projects. Kids can learn while they play

    5. Language Skills
This book really focuses on listening and speaking, but still has a bit of reading and writing. The audio is interesting and suitable for children. So all skills are practiced, although not too heavy.

    6. Language Content
The vocabulary is very relevant: colors, numbers, food, family, and so on. All the language is very much in line with the children's world and its use in real situations.

    7. Topic Content
The topics are very familiar to children, and there are no stereotypes. Children are also encouraged to express themselves, for example through the “My Family Poster” project.

    8. Teachability and Flexibility
The book comes with a lot of supplementary materials such as audio, flashcards, and additional worksheets. It can be used in various classroom situations, but teachers still need to be creative in adding additional exercises, especially for reading and writing.

    9. Assessment
There are reviews and checkpoints in some units, although they are not very deep. But we think this is suitable because the level is still Starter, and children at this stage are more focused on the learning experience first.

    10. Practical Considerations
Accessibly, the book is available online and in print, but it is a bit expensive if not subsidized by the school.

In conclusion, Big English Starter is a very suitable book for children's learning. It's engaging, communicative, flexible, and suits their needs. Although it still lacks formal assessment or explicit grammar, that's exactly what makes this book suitable for the early stages of language development. Kids can learn while they play, and that's the most important thing.
