SESSION 12: LANGUAGE PROCESSING

This chapter discusses informational process and the role of context. The discussion relates to the theory of cognitive and language acquisition. People now are interested not only about the language itself but about its use. The use of language include how people develop their ability as competence into performance as formulated by Chomsky's linguistic theory. Competence refers to humans' knowledge while performance defines as their knowledge realization in real situation that involves the contextual use. Therefore, the ability of contextual use is very important in developing their language skills. Context will determine the meaning of language and how people use their language. The theory of context was introduced by Halliday (1994) who focused on the use of language within context either situation or culture.  To learn more about this topic, you could open this presentation. please you give your idea why the language processing is becoming one of psycholinguistics' topic? in my blog's comment.

I want to Answer the question, why language processing is becoming one of psycholinguistics.
In my opinion, Because, Listening, reading, speaking and writing are called as the four of language skills. Specifically, psycholinguistics helps to understand the difficulties of these four skills both intrinsic difficulties and extrinsic difficulties. Psycholinguistics also helps to explain the errors students do in the language learning. Thus, language processing is becoming one of psycholinguistics.

In my opinion, short-term and long-term memory are interrelated because short-term memory is an important part of one's memory, when a person enters an information or stimulus into short-term memory and repeats, the information will go into the next process ( long-term memory).

Because psycholinguistics is the study of language processing mechanisms. Psycholinguistics like to study how word meaning, sentence meaning, and discourse meaning are computed and represented in the mind. This reveals something about the manner in which sentence (and phrase) production is planned in the mind.

In my opinion, why language processing is one of the psycholinguistic topics is because of the Psycholinguistic relationship in Language Acquisition and Learning. Through psycholinguistics we can learn about the concepts and structures of language. Language learning is done formally in formal settings, for example language learning in class. Study is not important wherever, even though not in the classroom, as long as the learning process is directed at mastering linguistic rules consciously by educators and also students, the process is called learning. In the formal and non-formal learning process, the psycholinguistic process works to acquire language knowledge through learning. So that this interdisciplinary can lead educators to understand the processes that occur within each learners are faced when they try to understand and give understanding of the material in language learning that is presented in the classroom.

I want to answer the question why language processing is becoming one of psycholinguistics' topic,
Language learning, as one of the complex human problems, language activities do not only take place mechanically, but also take place mentally. That is, language activities are also related to mental (brain) processes or activities. Therefore, in relation to language learning, linguistic studies need to be complemented by interdisciplinary studies between linguistics and psychology, which is commonly called psycholinguistics. The discussion of acquiring language is closely related to how humans can perceive and then understand the speech of others.
Psycholinguistics is the study of the relationship between language and human behavior and reason as well as acquired language skills. In the language process, there is a process of understanding and producing utterances, in the form of sentences. Psycholinguistics tries to describe the psychological processes that take place when a person utters the sentences he hears when communicating and how language skills are acquired by humans.

The human brain not only acquires and stored the mental and grammar, but also accesses that linguistik store house to speak and understand language in real time. So when we speak, we access our lexicon to find the word and we use the rules of grammar to produce the sounds that express them. However, other psychologycal processed are also involved in the production and comprehension of language.

i want to answers the questions why the language processing is becoming one of psycholinguistics' topic?
In my opinion, Psycholinguistics is an integration of two disciplines; psychology and linguistics. Psychology is the
study of mind and behavior; linguistics is the study of language. So, in general, psycholinguistics can be
defined as the study of mind and language. It is concerned with the relationship between the human mind
and the language as it examines the processes that occur in brain while producing and perceiving language.
Psycholinguistics covers three main points; language production, language perception and language
acquisition. Language production refers to the processes involved in creating and expressing meaning
through language. Language perception refers to processes involved in interpreting and understanding both
written and spoken language. Language acquisition refers to processes of acquiring a native or a second

Furthermore, it can communicate with other humans, including the stages a child goes through when the child learns language as stated by Palmatier (Tarigan, 1985: 3) that psycholinguistics is a science that studies children's language development. In my opinion, because in language processing there are several ways in which language processing can contribute to reports on how learning can succeed or fail. In discussing the key components of this ability emphasize the components that may be important for the grammatical breakdown of learners. From this input, there are some new findings about the speed with which different types of prediction processes are found to be important for language learning, because predictive processing helps students test hypotheses. One example is the addition of how language processing mechanisms can explain some ancient chestnuts in language learning. And finally we made some guesses about how certain processing abilities could contribute to a child's learning success, and perhaps even to the maturity constraints of learners.

I want to answer the question, Because psycholinguistics is concerned with discovering the psychological process by which human acquire and use language. Those who work in the field of language processing seek to identify the processes, often highly automatic, that underlie the two productive skills (speaking and writing) and the two receptive ones (listening and reading). Starting with the generation of ideas, accounts of language production allow for macro-planning at discourse level and local micro-planning in relation to the utterance about to be produced. The resulting plan is given linguistic form, which is stored in what is termed a mental buffer while the utterance is being produced.

the things that i understand and i got from this material is Language processing is an intricate cognitive function that appears to be sensitive to different sorts of information, some linguistic, some not. It interacts with other cognitive functions, such as attention and memory, and on some accounts these cognitive functions are embedded into language processing itself. It is also exquisitely sensitive to time, such that on some accounts, certain information types are used early in the processing stream, and others used later. The revelations about language processing are based on measurements that we make during particular tasks, and since there are a wide variety of such tasks, we often end up with disparate results across studies. So This, of course, is true of any scientific endeavor and only further work will help clear up these disparities.

Thus, we can never be completely sure if our hypotheses and theories are correct, and this is also true of any science. Even so, these roadblocks do not stop us from trying to penetrate such a complex system, and the more we try, the more we learn. Finally, it turns out that the more we learn about a system that is working under optimal conditions, the more we can use that knowledge to understand disordered systems, and hence bridge the basic and clinical sciences.

Language processing is an intricate cognitive function that appears to be sensitive to different sorts of information, some linguistic, some not. This, of course, is true of any scientific endeavor and only further work will help clear up these disparities.

In my opinion psycholinguistics theories have explained the mental processes that occur in human brain during a person produces and perceives a language. Language perception includes the activity of listening and reading, while the language production includes the activity of speaking and writing. Psycholinguistics = the study of language processing mechanisms. Psycholinguistics like to study how word meaning, sentence meaning, and discourse meaning are computed and represented in the mind. This reveals something about the manner in which sentence (and phrase) production is planned in the mind.

It interacts with different cognitive capabilities, inclusive of interest and memory, and on a few money owed those cognitive capabilities are embedded into language processing itself. It is likewise exquisitely touchy to time, such that on a few money owed, sure statistics kinds are used early withinside the processing stream, and others used later. The revelations approximately language processing are primarily based totally on measurements that we make at some stage in specific tasks, and due to the fact there are a extensive kind of such tasks, we regularly turn out to be with disparate effects.
