so that children become good at reading and understanding reading at the age of 6 years, it is best before starting formal learning at school at that age the child should be given direction Or study assistance. It doesn't have to start with learning to read, for example using image media first to recognize letters or the alphabet. Then after that little by little in the direction to spell the letters. This is done at the age of 5 years, then after that the child is taught to read. Don't take learning with small children too seriously either, we as teachers or prospective parents must communicate using their language or emotions

From all history of learning theories I agree with (Morpell and Washburne (1931) –
Classic study) which they said 'Children would only be prepared to
learn how to read when they reached
the mental age of six- and one half
years.'
In that age they must learn how to read the text or something short text that they found clearly. Because i Saw many of children haven't could read the text clearly. The one important thing, at least they can read, so from that reading the children Will understand the mean. After that they Will continue to the next step of learning.

S. Vygotsky (1962, 1978) The main concept of this theory is how interacting with other people and their culture affects their mental abilities. He distinguishes between ‘natural’ and ‘cultural’
development. Cultural development permits individuals
to learn systems of cultural behaviour, including means
of reasoning.
My question: What is meant by culture affecting mental abilities? and why is that?

Therefore I conclude that teaching English to young learners requires skilled teachers who are willing to continuously improve their teaching skills. The question is is there a traditional view to improving this or is there an effective way to improve this?

In order for a child to be good at reading and understanding the lessons conveyed at the age of 6 years, what must be done is to educate the child before he enters school. The role of parents is very important for the development of children. Children can be taught to recognize letters first. To make learning more fun, you can use image media. That way the child will more easily understand and learn what he reads. The role of parents should pay more attention to the child's growth and development so that he feels cared for. Always supervise children while studying. Ask the children what their difficulties are. Interesting and fun learning media will make it easier for children to focus on learning. If parents do not have enough time to teach their children, then what must be done is to send the child to a kindergarten (TK) or to bring in a private teacher. At the age of 5/6 years, children will more easily understand lessons.

I agree with (Morpell and Washburne (1931) – Classical studies)
"Children will only be ready to learn read when they reach age mental six and a half years".
The statements in this topic are true. Because children under the age of six should not be given formal reading instructions in advance. As EYL teachers, we have to give them the impression that learning English is easy and fun. Such as holding games, singing, and knowing the names of animals using English. Because by doing that, they will be more enthusiastic in learning English.

I agree with the concept of social development theory (LS Vygotsky 1962, 1978) the central concept of this theory is how individuals interact with other people and their culture affects their mental faculties.
Children of early age use their experiences to develop themselves. Learning to be as early as possible to be broad-minded. In my opinion that teaching children at an early age should be distinguished from elementary school children because their brains may not have developed at its maximum. At an early age where possible teachers should apply stimulus in order to motivate students to more eagerness to learn language. Teachers must teach systematically from beginning letter recognition, increasing to word recognition, and then learning to read more based on their experiences learning letters and words.

Young children learn from what they see and what is shown. To be able to improve children's literacy skills, I think the role of parents and the environment around their children is also very important to pay attention to. Older people should set an example for children to get used to reading with them as well. Invite children to read, if we are used to reading novels or magazines then give reading books to children with funny picture books so they don't get bored. Even though they can't read yet, they are used to holding books. So that when it's time for them to go to school they are used to learning. Especially in this technological age, many children are already able to use gadgets, this also needs to be considered because if it is too much it will have a bad impact on children. Get children to learn while playing with activities they enjoy.

I agree with NAEYC and IRA' research, we can know that it is very important to teach children how to read from an early age. But not all children can do it easily, for that as a teacher, we must understand what method is suitable for each child's characteristics or according to the child's needs. Introducing letters to children is the first step to invite him to learn to read, so that he is literate and able to develop his language well.
When children enter elementary school, the teaching they receive changes, unlike in kindergarten, children usually tend to play more games in their learning system. However, when they are in elementary school, children will be introduced to writing and reading. It is true that the skills of a child also support the teacher's lesson plan.

What I want to ask is how to get children or young learners to be interested in English culture? which through the introduction and reasoning of the culture has a great influence on their ability, behavior or mentality in learning English as early as possible.

Basically, early childhood is easier to understand if you see directly from the knowledge that will be obtained, because Islam also teaches us if you want to seek knowledge, start by reading, besides that the meaning of reading also has the meaning of observing and studying the knowledge gained in other words, students will be easy to learn. Gain knowledge if you have read and observed. as one character said.Morpell and Washburne (1931) –

I think I agree with (Morpell and washburne -1931 )
that the ideal age for children to learn to read is when the child is about 6 years old.
Literacy awareness is a gradual process that starts when babies are still playing and their parents read fairy tales. This habit will then lead the child to be able to read independently. Children who can't read will find it difficult to participate because they don't understand the basic mechanics so they don't understand what other children their age are doing.

I totally agree with what's in the ppt about how a child learns to read at the right age. Because learning to read and write actually starts at the age of 6-7 years. At the age of 4-5 years, children can begin to be introduced to pre-reading skills as the basics of reading and writing such as recognizing letters, recognizing numbers, spelling syllables, writing some letters and numbers, and so on.
It is not recommended to provide children under the age of 6 years with formal reading. There will be consequences if children are forced to learn to read at an age that is not yet ready to read.
And I would like to ask Mrs 🙏🏼. About Jean Piaget's (1947, 1951) methods by which children construct their own knowledge?. Isn't it the teachers or parents who should build knowledge in their children or students.

I agree with Jean Piaget's (1947,1951) research
That children use their experiences to build knowledge based on their development. That way, the teacher must provide a good experience for his students. Students must be in a good environment too, so that he always gets a good experience, in the school environment or at home, in this day and age, there are many social media that can add and expand a student's experience

I agree with some of the statements from the PPT.
In fact, a child is an excellent recorder, he will do something depending on the habits of the environment around him.
This is especially true for children who are in early childhood education. Mental and psychologists are still very soft, we as teachers cannot force or try to get a child to learn formally.
Children are someone who is in a period of growth, meaning that his imagination is still full of question marks, so we need to get used to it. And dominantly they like to play, so as much as possible we should be able to make teaching and learning activities fun, of course it's not a formal learning activity like adult learning in general.

Regarding the learning theory and explanation that Mrs has conveyed, in my opinion it is true that in order to be able to provide knowledge such as language intelligence, literacy, and cognition, it must be considered first or adjusted to the child's growth phase, lest we be too restrictive and we must also let the child grow. According to his age Indeed, early childhood does not need to master (calistung) first, but I think of course by paying attention to the development of children we can use learning media media or interesting learning methods that can attract motor and language stimulation of children, especially at preschool age, for example using pictures, videos, or unique learning applications for children such as lingumi, lingokids, Fun English, English for kid vocabulary (of course with parental supervision), then playing while learning which is not too focused on giving material but they are free to play with their friends as a realm to socialize with a little learning in it that is not coercive. For example, the role of the teacher at preschool age introduces something to children and becomes a bridge. This is considering that the preschool age stage of thinking is a concrete stage, where everything must have an example. For example, giving examples of arranging books, tidying up toys, and so on and then the child together with his friends do the things that are exemplified. Then introduce culture, teach children to focus on one language first (the main language), interaction, and responsibility. When they leave preschool about 5 years old, they are prepared to enter the next stage maybe we can introduce (what calistung is) and when the child is at the elementary school stage, which is around 6/7 years old, he can start formal education by not playing much although there is still a little and already know the rules in class. And of course not only teachers who understand the development of children's parents also have to understand it.
Previously, allow me to ask Mrs🙏🏻
According to you Mrs, How does a teacher respond and what should we do when there is a child who is less interested in learning English so that he is less than optimal in accepting the learning?
Thank you Mrs🙏🏻

I agree with L. S. Vygotsky's (1962, 1978) statement, regarding.
"The main concept of the theory is that how individuals

abilities. He distinguishes between ‘natural’ and ‘cultural’

Because to train individuals mentally by interacting with other people and mingling with culture is the right thing and enriches their abilities. When they interact with culture they can learn many things and their cultural behavioral systems can also distinguish between 'natural' and 'cultural' development.

According to theory Morpell and Washburne (1931) –
Classic study
Children would only be prepared to
learn how to read when they reached
the mental age of six- and one half
years.
But what if nervousness and self-doubt prevent a child's readiness to read at that age, even continue? As happened in elementary school, it turns out that a student cannot read when he is in grade 3, where the age of the student is 9 years old.
Is it true that the child's mental preparedness is based on his age?
the theory of Arnold Gesell (1940) - maturation - in this theory children in learning must be developed in order to create habitual behavior. This theory is also slightly the same as the theory of Morpel and Washborn (1931)-classic study. children must prepare and get used to learning and reading when they are age of six and one half years (estimated when children are at the early school years level)

Of the several theories above, surely all of them are based on direct observations. and some opinions suggest that the maturity of a child's reading ability is based on experience, mental ability and based on the early age of entry. however, I agree more with the opinion of L. S. Vygotsky (1962, 1978) who argues that the theory of social development of individual abilities can develop through interactions with other people and culture affects their learning abilities.
and the research of NAEYC and IRA' (2009) revealed some of the results from proper observations on a child's learning to read.
and I want to ask from the opinion about the ability of a child above, how to inculcate interest in reading in children?

In the discussion of theories for teaching I agree with the opinion (Morpell and Washburne (1931) – Classical studies)
"Children are only ready to learn to read when they reach the mental age of six and a half."
The statements in this topic are true. Because in my opinion, children under the age of six will certainly not enjoy learning if they are presented for formal reading, because in essence, teachers must give an impression to children under age with interesting learning, so that students will enjoy learning, whether taught through singing , games, recognize the names of animals, which of course use English, then the learning media must also be interesting, because I think children at that age only focus on interesting things, so that they want to know more deeply and want to learn things the. formal reading instructions may be given first.
my question: how do teachers attract attention so that students can learn with enthusiasm in a lesson, other than with games?
